KOH LARN THAILAND
KOH LARN
Koh Larn, what a pleasant surprise. We headed to Koh Larn to celebrate one of our parents 75th birthday who was visiting from Australia. We wanted somewhere close to Jomtien and not too far on the ferry. You can do a day trip from Pattaya to Koh Larn but we recommend staying at least one night. The days on Koh Larn can be busy but as the crowd's head back to Pattaya in the afternoon this little island is totally transformed. We visited early December when the sea was calm, perfect for the ferry.
How to get to Koh Larn
You can reach Koh Larn two ways either by public ferry or by speed boat. We travelled by public ferry which took around 40 minutes and cost 30thb per person, you don't need to pre-book. Speed boats can be rough and you need to get in and out of the boat in the water.
Make your way to the Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya City. You will find lots of touts around the pier trying to sell you something but just head towards the end of the pier and look for the large wooden public ferries. On either side of the pier, you will see the public ferries. The boat on the left will take you to Tawaen Beach and the right will take you to Na Bann Pier. We took the ferry to the popular Tawaen Beach. The ferries run from 8.00am to Tawaen beach and return back to Pattaya until 17:00.
Where to Stay
We stayed at Tawaen beach which has sparkling blue water and a calm ocean, fantastic for swimming. Along the beachfront you will find tourist shops, street food carts, lots of restaurants and even a 7/11.
Tawaen offers some great accommodation only a few steps away from the ocean. We stayed at "tcvilla on the beach". Tcvilla has lovely rooms and only a few steps to the waters edge. The resort offers free sun lounges for hotel guest on the beach out the front. We headed straight to the beach, went for a swim, enjoyed a few cold beers and had a delicious lunch.
The beachfront is lined with restaurants on one side and bean bags, table and chairs on the other. You will notice the beach is considerably quieter than during the day. We had a great night relaxing with a few drinks and enjoying a lovely meal while listening to some chilled music. A fire show to finish off the night. This island is truly a little gem not to be missed. Koh Larn is for relaxing and that's exactly what we did.
After a relaxing night on the beach and great night's sleep we enjoyed a swim in the morning, then headed off to explore the island. We hired a private songthaew to get the three of us around. You can rent a scooter or a golf cart but just a heads up some of the roads are very steep. We all jumped in the back of the songthaew and headed to the Big Buddha and view point. What an amazing view. We then headed off around the island to exploring all of the beaches. As much as some of the other beached were lovely you don't have the same direct access to the beach or restaurants all in walking distance like you do at Tawaen beach, so we were happy with our choice.
Make your way to the pier to catch the ferry back to Pattaya.
We had an amazing time on Koh Larn and our only disappointment was that we only stayed one night.
Koh Larn we will be back 😊
