BANGKOK THAILAND

EXPLORE BANGKOK

Bangkok is a city of contrasts, offering a vibrant mix of culture, history, shopping & nightlife. Thailand and Bangkok hold a special spot in our hearts as we eloped and married in Bangkok in 2010. Bangkok is a great place to start and finish your Thailand experience.

Below is a 3-day itinerary to explore some of the cities sights we love and enjoy.

Where to Stay

We recommend staying in the Bang Lamphu area (Old Town) of Phra Nakhon District, we stayed at Korbua House on the canal.

Bangkok Old Town, straddles the Chao Phraya River and is just north of Bangkok's Chinatown. The famous Khaosan Road is only a short walk from Korbua House. Khaosan Road is one of the major backpacking hubs of South East Asia. If Khaosan Road is not your thing the next street over you can find Soi Rambuttri which is a great spot to chill, chat, eat street food or enjoy one of the many restaurants. From Korbua House you can also head across the little bridge over the canal and you will find many small restaurants and bars for even more of a chilled and relaxed vibe. This area is suitable for any type of traveler from young to old or even the young at heart 😊

Day 1

After breakfast at the hotel or eating some street food make your way to Wat Pho (we took a Grab) and get ready to be amazed by the huge Reclining Buddha. Wander around in this Buddhist temple and take it all in. After finding your inner peace walk to Tha Tian Pier and jump on the local ferry to cross the Chao Phraya river to Wat Arun. Climb the stairs to the top if your game and take in the panoramic views of the bustling Chao Phraya River, the Grand Palace and Wat Pho. Make your way back to Wat Arun Pier and enjoy a long tail tour up the canals and down the Chao Phraya River.

Then onto Wang Lang Market (we took a Grab) wonder the markets while trying some delicious food and do a little bit of shopping.

Head back to the hotel to freshen up for dinner and drinks.

Explore Khaosan Road and Rambuttri Street to enjoy dinner at one of the many restaurants or wonder the streets and snack from the food carts.

Day 2

After breakfast at the hotel or eating at one of the small restaurants, take a Tuk Tuk 🛺 to Pak Khlong Talat (Flower Market) and be amazed by the skill of the sellers and enjoy the beautiful colours of the flowers.

Then enjoy a nice walk around 10-15 minutes through the bustling streets of the edge of China Town to Phahurat Market. Phahurat Market known as "Little India” is a buzzing area selling Asian fabrics, spices & street food. Take a walk-through Indian Emporium for a bit of shopping. Just outside of Indian Emporium you will find Samosa Corner where we ate some delicious vegetarian samosa. Cross the busy road and head to Ong Ang Canal to enjoy some lunch. We enjoyed a Thali at Mama Restaurant Authentic Indian Food and cooled down in this lovely airconditioned restaurant.

Head back to Korbua House (or your hotel) and enjoy a cold beer overlooking the canal. Although the canal has its own smell its full of life from fish of all sizes to large monitor lizards.

Head over the canal, turn left and wander the streets to find a restaurant for dinner and drinks.

Day 3

If you happen to be in Bangkok on the weekend and hopefully you are head to Chatuchak Weekend Market. Chatuchak Market is open Saturdays and Sundays 9:00am to 18:00pm and you can shop to you drop. This is the largest market in Thailand. Also known as JJ Market, it has more than 15,000 stalls and 11,505 vendors, divided into 27 sections.

If going to Chatuchak by Skytrain (BTS) you should get off at Mo Chit Station and exit the station by exit number 1. From here just follow the crowds to the market entrance. On the Subway (MRT), travel to Chatuchak Park Station and as above, take exit number 1 and follow the crowds.

On our last visit we travelled by Grab which took around 20 minutes from the Korbua House.

This is usually a big hot day shopping and exploring so head off fresh early in the morning.

Tonight explore Chinatown. Bangkok Chinatown is one of the largest Chinatowns in the world it has many streets sprawling around this large area. We recommend getting a Tuk Tuk or a Grab to Yaowarat Road. At night, Yaowarat Road transforms into one of the largest street food spots in the world. Locals and travellers can be seen along the main thoroughfare, sampling their way through all that there is to offer, turning dinner into an evening of exploration. It can be confusing at first but, with a sense of adventure, it can be a lot of fun.

If you have time the next morning before heading to your next destination, take a Grab and head to Lumphini Park. This huge park is a green oasis in the middle of the city. A multi-function park where people come to exercise, practise Tai Chi, do yoga, play games or simply enjoy a walk amongst the beautiful trees around the lake. You will see many monitor lizards of all sizes on the artificial lake where the kids or big kids can ride on a little boat. As this is a public park it is free to visit.

If you don’t have enough time to visit Lumphini Park but still don’t want to waste your morning you could visit The Grand Palace.

You can spend months in Bangkok and still not see it all but these are our top picks. We hope you love Bangkok as much as we do.

Thanks travelingmoses
