FLIGHTS

Flights

Our go to platform to search for flights had always been Skyscanner however recently we have starting also using Google Flights. We search both these platforms to find suitable flights and a guide for prices, after finding the flight of choice we usually book direct with the Airlines. Some short flights with no luggage we have booked via Agoda with no issues however you can not pick a seat or add extras with some airlines if booking via a third party.

Tip - Set up price alerts on Google flights or Skyscanner and have notifications sent to your email when prices change.

We would book our flights at least 3-6 months in advance if possible and to places like Bali and Koh Samui up to 1 year in advance. Make sure you look into visa's before booking flights. Check if you need a visa and how long can you stay in country. If we can apply for an e-visa online before we travel we always do. Make sure you use your government travel website such as Smartraveller in Australia to follow links to apply for your visa and any other requirements you need before arrival at your destination.

When booking flights we also consider immigration queues and distance to our destination. For an example if flying into Vietnam we prefer to fly in and out of Da Nang airport. Da Nang has a great airport, it's new, clean and immigration queues move quickly unlike Ho Chi Minh City. The same as arriving in Bangkok you may find a cheaper flight landing in Don Mueang however this has added over 1 hour in travel time when heading to Jomtien and extra cost in taxi fare.

Book early to find the best prices especially to places like Koh Samui.
